This weekend is going to be busy! Tons of fun things to do in the Panhandle. Here are just a few that caught my eye for tomorrow, May 4th. I see several future blogs from the events below.

Wiregrass Rose Society presents the 9th annual Rose Show at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens Rickett’s Hall from 1pm-4pm. This is a free event that is open to the public. They will have rose for sale as well. Call 334-201-6800 for more information.
45th Annual Blue Crab Festival in Panacea at Woolley Park. Park admission is $3 and kids under 12 are free. This festival originated in 1975 to promote the crab industry in Wakulla County. The festival will kick off at 10am with a parade down U.S. 98. They will have a mullet toss, mountain dew cloggers, crab picking contest, cypress trio and more. Chautauqua Vineyards and Winery is having a spring festival in DeFuniak Springs from 9am – 6pm. They will have free wine tastings, music, and arts & crafts vendors. No entry fees~ family friendly day of fun!
Free event in Lynn Haven at the Sharon Sheffield Park. 10am – 2pm. They will have inflatables, crafts, popcorn, live music, hamburgers, and hot dogs.
This is a community celebration in Wewahitchka at the Honeyville Park. From 1pm – 4pm stop by as they unite as a strong community post-storm, for the public schools our students deserve. It is free and they will have face painting, music, bounce house, food, and take action booths.
In Fort Walton Beach at the Northwest Florida Fair on Lewis Turner Blvd is sure to be a lot of happy kids. From 10am – 2pm the FWB Police Department will host this free event. It will provide kids with the educational opportunity to enjoy close-up interaction with big equipment in a safe environment.

 

Dog friendly

I love dogs and often have at least one of them in the car with me! I am always on the look out for dog friendly places to go. I heard about a place called Hook’d Pier Bar & Grill. It is located in Panama City Beach close to a dog beach. Patio seating with a view of the beach. I heard the food was good and the drinks too! I think I will take my dog next time we are in the area. If you know of any great pet friendly places to eat be sure to let me know. I will let you know how this place is once we go.

Thunder Beach 21st Spring Rally

Tonight at 7pm is the kick-start party for this 5 day Motorcycle Rally. It will be at Hammerhead’s in Panama City Beach. The 3 main venues for this event will be Frank Brown Park, The Crossroads at Thunder Beach, and Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach. They have free live entertainment and contests. They charge no gate fees and parking is free, they are open from 9am to 9pm, May 1st-May 5th. They will have a Custom Bike Show and a Battle of the Baggers, Thunder Beach Sound Off Competition on May 4th. For more info go to: https://www.thunderbeachproductions.com/

Blueberry U-Pick

Jubilee Orchards is a 50-acre organic blueberry orchard with over 10 southern highbush blueberry varieties. Admission is free and you pick your own blueberries for $7 per lb. They are located at 12008 Miccosukee Road in Tallahassee. They are open Tuesdays-Fridays from 4pm to 7pm, Saturdays from 8am to 3pm, and Sundays from 1pm to 4pm till June 9th. Check jubileeorchards.com for more information, they even have blueberry recipes. If you make anything be sure to bring it by the office to share!

Greenwood

Did you know that Greenwood has just under 5 square miles of land? It is located in the NE portion of Jackson County Florida. It was established in 1824 and incorporated in 1927. The East-West street through Greenwood is named Fort Road, it originally began as a fort on the Apalachicola River and running westward to Pensacola. The Erwin House is one of the oldest in the county. It was built in the 1830’s.

Most recently Greenwood has been in the news for providing a key resource to it’s community.  A month after Hurricane Michael a fire destroyed the one place where locals could get groceries and grab a hot meal. Greenwood Baptist Church is helping by providing food and clothing for free. On Saturday 100’s of cars lined up to drive through and be given food.

Upcoming events: Wednesday May 1st, Save The Closet will be at the church from 10am to 7pm. Those in need will be able to go get clothes for free. They will also receive a bag of food. And on Mother’s Day May 12th, they will be holding a service at 10:45am with a luncheon and flowers for all Mom’s. Follow them on FB for more events. http://greenwoodbaptist.org/

Today from 9am to 12pm take your kid’s to this free event in Panama City Beach. Hot dog lunch is being provided. Don’t forget the sunscreen, it is going to be a sunny and beautiful day here in the Panhandle!

This is the 2nd annual adult-alternative rock music festival. I came tonight and this is a few photos of the amazing sunset! This year’s headliners are Kings of Leon, Third Eye Blind and Young the Giant, with accompanying acts including Cold War Kids, Dirty Heads, the Revivalist, Anderson East, Matt and Kim, Blackberry Smoke, We The Kings and more! Located on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico in Panama City Beach, the M.B Miller county Pier sits 1500 feet out into the Gulf of Mexico.
