Inspire Your Heart with Art

Today is Inspire Your Heart with Art Day! There is growing scientific evidence that creating art helps cognitive health.(1) Painting has helped stimulate memories and encourage connections in those with dementia. Further studies have shown that using art to express oneself can help improve the emotional health of individuals with depression, anxiety, and cancer. Additionally, art has been linked to improved memory, reasoning, and resilience in healthy older people.

Art is for individuals of ALL ages. It can be messy or neat, colorful or black and white, a mix of mediums, and more. There are no rules in art. Spend today exploring the world and yourself through artistic creation. You can make art using anything and everything; finger painting in the dirt with your kids can be just as beautiful and fulfilling as spending hours on a detailed ink drawing.

A comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

To prepare for the audition, prepare 16 – 24 bars (one verse and a chorus) of a song in musical theatre style. This is a tracked musical, so please prepare a tracked audition piece. There will be a speaker provided or you can bring your own (use karaoke or accompaniment tracks only). Choose a song that enhances and shows off your singing skills. You may also be asked to take part in movement or dance auditions where the choreographer will ask you to learn a few steps. No a capella auditions.

Falling (Pine) Needles Day

Today is a national day created to remind families to recycle their Christmas trees rather than burning them or tossing them on the curb. One way is to search Earth911’s recycling solution to see where you can recycle a tree near you. You can also be sure to make use of each part of the tree. Strip the pine needles to use the wood after allowing it to thoroughly dry out; you can use the wood for fires, carving, and more crafts. Even the pine needles themselves can be utilized! Collect the needles, place them in a large bowl filled with cold water, and gently rub the needles to wash off dust and other debris. You can then use the needles to make sprite-flavored natural soda or tea! Visit Ms Shi & Mr He’s pine needle recipe page here for details, warnings, and recipes!
