Volunteers needed this Saturday~Sept 21st

Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity-Washington & Jackson Counties need volunteers. Saturday, Sept 21st from 7:45am to noon at 4217 Oak Street in Marianna. They will be deconstructing the interior of this home to prepare for its complete renovation. Skilled and non-skilled volunteers are needed. International Coastal Cleanup is Sept 21st from 8am to noon. St. Andrew Bay Watch, City of Panama City, and the Historic St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership are teaming up with International Coastal Cleanup After the cleanup Panama City will be serving hot dogs for all volunteers. Please meet at 3151 W 10th St in Panama City.
Franklin County Coastal Cleanup on Sep the 21st from 8:30am to 11:30am. Several locations to meet at ~Battery Park, under the bridge ~Lighthouse Park, in front of lighthouse ~12th Street out about 12 miles ~146 Box Cut Road, Alligator Point ~City Pavilion on Marine St. across from RV park. Be sure to check photo for more locations. Volunteers should bring work or closed toed water shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, and protective clothing. Snacks, water, rash bags, and tee shirts will be provided.
Clothing Giveaway and Yard Sale Fundraiser held on Sept 21st from 9am to 3pm at Oak Grove Church located at 613 Madison St in Port St Joe. They will have clothes for FREE. The furniture and household items with be for sale for cash or PayPal only. The yard sale is to help raise funds for operating expenses.

 

Sept 21, Carrabelle’s three museums will offer free admission as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 15th annual museum day. Check Franklin County Tourist Development Council on FB for more information.
Sept 21st at 10am at Milk & Honey in Marianna you can meet the midwife and The Doulas. You are invited to meet Jordan Miles, our area’s newest practicing Certified Nurse Midwife with full hospital privileges (including water births) at Jackson Hospital in Marianna. While you ask questions and learn your options you can enjoy the yogurt and coffee shop!
Sept 21st starting at 10am at The Boardwalk in Fort Walton Beach enjoy larger then life show kites, professional stunt kite flying lessons, a family fun fly perfect for any age, and special activities at the Kitty Hawk store at The Boardwalk. Kites will be flying on the 21st and 22nd.

WFEC planned outage on Sept 19 for certain areas

West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) is having a planned power outage on September 19th from 9pm to approximately 10:30pm impacting all members served by the Chipley substation. The junction inside the substation that was damaged during Hurricane Michael will be repaired by PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, WFEC’s generation & transmission cooperative during this time. This outage will impact 3,962 meters in Chipley, Wausau, Orange Hill, Duncan Community, Sapp Church Community, Rock Hill Community, New Home & Salem Communities, Hwy 273, Richter’s Crossroads, Lovewood Community, and the Falling Waters area.

WFEC apologizes for any inconvenience this outage may cause. These repairs are necessary to improve the quality of service to the members in that area. Saturday~ September 14th

A full day in the panhandle this Saturday. Below are just a few events going on. Be sure to look below each photo for a description.

Sept 14th from 9am to 4pm at the Centennial Hall in Port St. Joe located at 300 Allen Memorial Way is a housing resource fair. Free and Kid friendly event with free food, They will have realtors, mortgage companies, legal advisors, local recovery agencies, construction company, and health, career, and education staff on hand for you to meet with in person. Families from all communities are invited.
Free family matinee on Sept 14th at NorthStar Callaway campus from 11am to 1pm located at 162 N. Tyndall Parkway in Panama City. Lunch provided by Beef O Brady’s and they will have fun and games for the whole family.
Sept 14th from 9am to 3pm they are having a free event at the Holmes County Ag Center. The expo will have scavenger hunts, giveaways, live demonstrations, and more. Experts from across the region will be on-site to answer any questions you may have about topics including food plot management, aquatic feed control, and fish pond optimization.
Sept 14th, family scavenger hunt in Downtown Panama City from 10am to 3pm. Downtown Panama City is hosting the scavenger hunt in over 30 businesses and some of your favorite public spots. You can win prizes by getting your map stamped at participating locations as well as posting photos to social media with the #downtownpanamacity. You can pick up your map Saturday morning at Main Street Antiques on Harrison, Vinny’s and Bay’s coffee and eatery, or Panama City Center for the Arts and start searching!
Bunk Bed Build round 2 will be on Sept 14th from 8am till noon at Innovative Charities of Northwest Florida, Inc. on Hwy 71 in Marianna. Our area still has kids sleeping on the floor. So sleep in heavenly peace has teamed up to build 15 sets of bunkbeds this Saturday. If you can help please go to Bunk Bed Build Round 2! on FB and comment so they know how many will be attending.
Sept 14th from 10am to 5pm on Front Beach Road in Panama City Beach Turtle Girls Market is hosting Septembart Creativity and Art Festival. This is the 1st (hopefully annual) event celebrating local artists and artisans. This event will feature local art, fun creations, beer, music, food and wine.

Anna Wescoat Live @ Milk And Honey on Hwy 90 in Marianna. 6:30pm to 8:30 pm. Relax and unwind and leave the work week behind. Anna will be playing live music on the patio and you can buy frozen yogurt with a wall full of toppings and they also have a full service coffee bar. A delicious way to start the weekend.
Yard Sale Friday and Saturday at Partners For Pets on Maintenance Dr. in Marianna. Starts at 7am both days and goes till 1pm. Help support a local no kill animal shelter.

 

Sep 25th~Jackson County Legislative Delegation Meeting

The Washington and Jackson Legislative Delegation will hold their annual Pre-Session meeting ‪on Wednesday, September 25, 2019‬ at 2:15 p.m. CST Jackson County School Board Chambers‬ located at 2903 Jefferson Street in Marianna.‬

This meeting is an opportunity for citizens, elected officials, cities and local governments, and other civic organizations to address the delegation before the start of the 2020 Legislative Session. They will also consider and vote on “local bills”, which is state legislation that only pertains to a municipality, taxing district, or school district within the county.

Public testimony during the Legislative Delegation Meetings is welcome. To request an appearance form to be placed on the agenda or submit handouts for the Washington and/or Jackson County Legislation Delegation meeting, please email ‪brad.drake@myfloridahouse.gov‬ or ‪ann.mcgraw@myfloridahouse.gov‬ or contact Rep. The legislative delegation consists of Representative Brad Drake (R-Eucheeanna) and Senator George Gainer (R-Panama City). Both Drake and Gainer represent other counties in Northwest Florida.

Art Break Day~Sep 6th

Art Break Day is a worldwide event, annually on the 1st Friday of September. Grab your favorite creative hobby and go do it in St. Andrews in Panama City on Friday, September 6th from 12pm to 6pm. They will have arting, dancing, music making, and preforming all over Historic St. Andrews, and they want to do it with you! St. Joe Community Foundation is sponsoring this day for everyone to take an afternoon art break. An art break is an intentional act of creativity. Hope you have a creative day!

Saturday, August 31st

Lots to do this Labor Day weekend. Below are just a handful of things that are going on. Stay safe, have fun, and keep on eye on Hurricane Dorian.

Relax and Learn hosted by Colonics & Massage of Marianna. This event runs from 9am to 2pm located at 2946 Jefferson St. Go meet and greet with health conscious individuals. Learn the many benefits or Massage, Colon Hydrotherapy and the Ion foot bath detox. They will also introduce to you the benefits of the Salt Therapy that is coming soon. The Downtown Panama City merchants has a great group of businesses participating. On August 31st from noon to 1pm stroll thru Downtown’s many locations. They will provide maps for which store has who playing in front of it. A lot of the businesses that are participating are on Harrison St in Downtown Panama City. Play Music on the Porch Day started out as an idea in 2013. By 2018 thousands of musicians from at least 60 countries and over 600 cities participated and the movement continues to grow everyday. Participation is easy. You can go to a schedule event like this one or just go outside and play music. Participate alone or invite your friends to gather on the porch. Saving with Soul pet rescue is a foster-based rescue, so adoptable animals are in private homes in the NW Florida Panhandle. The best way to meet one of there pets is to attend the adoption events on Saturdays. They have events EVERY Saturday follow there page on FB to see what pets they have and where the location for that Saturday will be. www.savewithsoul.com Most of the pets are fully vetted and most are ready to go home right away. Fees range from $75 to $250.
Alaqua Animal Refuge is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter that rescues, rehabilitates and adopts a wide variety of animals in need. They are located at 914 Whitfield Road in Freeport. This Saturday they are having a 1/2 off adoption fee promotion in order to find forever families for more of their dogs. They are completely overwhelmed by the amount of dogs in the kennels and are running at maximum capacity. They need to send home as many dogs as they can. They are open from noon to 5pm on Saturday.
Labor Day Concert Celebration at HarborWalk Village in Destin. This event is Aug 31st and Sep 1st. Live music all weekend long and on Sunday they will have fireworks over the Destin Harbor.
