Sykes Family Farms’ 9-acre corn maze is once again open for the spooky season! Located in Elkton, this crop maze has four phases. Guests are provided with a question-filled passport to help guide them through the maze. This year’s maze is a tribute to country legend Reba McEntire; expect some themed crop patterns and more! Admission to the crop maze also includes hayrides, duck races, pedal carts, corn popper, a chance to meet the farm animals, and the playground. The maze is open during daylight hours and after dark. Ghost Tours
Just in time for the spooky season, here are two options for ghost experiences in the Florida Panhandle. Both offer unique views of an areas haunted, historic past.
In Apalachicola, join a ghostly night tour of the downtown area. It’s a 90-minute tour lead by an experienced guide who uses ghost-hunting equipments. Select tour participants will be allowed to work the EMF detectors! If the macabe is more your speed, sign up for the “Ghost Stories and Poe” tour which is lead by a ghostly “Edgar Allen Poe” character; he retells local lore and paranormal investigations. The Ghost Tours are available throughout October while the “Ghost Stories and Poe” tour is available only on Oct. 13, 14, 27 and 28. Milton’s Ghost Walk, held annually on October 21-22, regularly attracts more than two thousand people! The city’s Halloween ghost walks explore Milton’s eerie past via community ‘ghosts.’ The tour leaves every 15 minutes starting at 6pm each evening. Illuminights at Jacksonville Zoo
The Jacksonville Zoo is hosting Illuminights once again! From now until August 11th, visit the zoo on Fridays to enjoy the twilight hours with the animals as they wind down to sleep. After dark, the magical lightscapes set the garden paths aglow. The lightscapes are interactive; this year’s special highlight is Starry Night. The show features meteor showers and twinkling stars. There will also be an interactive laser show, acrobatic performances, Glow Party, animal stilt walkers, DJ, and a live band. Museum Collections Revealed
The Museum of Florida History and Florida Historic Capitol Museum is hosting a special event to showcase special works. The Unseen: Museum Collections Revealed will be held only on July 20th and August 17th. The special events will give guests a one-hour private tour featuring works usually not displayed to the public. The tour will also show guests the behind-the-scenes of museum curation: see how items are collected, processed, and cared for. Artopia 2023
Tallahassee’s premier art charity fundraiser is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Artopia will be held at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center on June 24th at 6:30pm. Artopia is an annual celebration that supports the Big Bend community; all proceeds raised from art purchases will go towards providing prescriptions, food, COVID-19 vaccines, and other medical care to those in need free of charge.
Local and regional artists donate their pieces to Artopia. This year’s selection includes over 300 artworks including signed prints and numbered editions. Mardi Gras in Panama City Beach
Panama City Beach is hosting the annual Mardi Gras Music Festival today and tomorrow. Visit Pier Park to enjoy this two-day family-friendly festival. There will be parades, Cajun cooking, a 5L, live music, and fireworks. Today is the kid-friendly Second Line Parade. Tomorrow, the festivities start with the 5K fun run followed by the Krewe of Dominique Youx-lead parade. Hoggetowne Medieval Faire
Gainesville’s 36th annual renaissance festival starts tomorrow! Hoggetowne Medieval Faire will be held at 9409 SW Archer Rd for the next three weekends. Open January 14-15, 20-21, and 27-29, come by to bring 2023 in ye olde style. There will be NINE stages with live entertainment including full-flight falconry, aerial acrobatics, jugglers, knife throwers, and gypsy dancers. Over 160 artisans and craftsmen will be selling one-of-a-kind jewelry, stone carvings, leather crafts, and period fashions in the medieval marketplace. But that’s not all! There will also be living chess board matches, carnival rides, and a fully-stocked food court. New Year Hikes
Looking to stick to your new year goal of being more active? Want to spend more time outdoors? Come out to explore the Gulf Coast’s coastal beauty this January! There will be four different hikes guided by a ranger this month. The hikes will be on the beach at the Rish Recreation Area in Port St. Joe, so come prepared for sun, sand, and fun. Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival
The Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival is coming to Pensacola. From today until November 6th, there will be a free art show featuring over 200 artisans and craftsmen taking place in Seville Square. The event will also feature live music as well as a Children’s Art Festival. The Children’s Festival includes hands-on art activities and a Student Art Show. It will run on Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm. The Arts Festival will be open from 9am – 5pm today and tomorrow; on Sunday it will run from 9am – 4pm. Foo Foo Festival’s Bubble Alley
Today was the first day of the Foo Foo Festival’s Bubble Alley. Bubble Alley is a free public art exhibit that will be on display from November 3-14. The display features thousands of reusable vinyl bubbles suspended above Intendencia Street. Bubble Alley is brought to the public by the Friends of Downtown Pensacola.
