Benefitting the PCB Senior Center

The Panama City Beach Senior Center counts on donations to keep its lights on and to continue serving the community. Consider supporting this keystone of the community by visiting its upcoming craft fairs. Today, from 9am to 2pm, the PCBSC will be hosting the Winter Craft Fair. The fair will be held at the Lyndell Conference Center right next door to the PCBSC. The Craft Fair will have crafts, jewelry, local goods, lunch items, baked goods, and more!

The second fair will also be held at the Lyndell Conference Center. On March 5th, PSBSC will be hosting an Everything Sale. It will have everything available at the Craft Fair and more! For more information about either event, call the PCBSC at 850-233-5065 or email sue@pcbsc.com.

Greenwood Supermarket: Grand Reopenening!

The Greenwood Supermarket is expected to reopen by the end of February. Bill and Christine Smith have moved the store to a new location; 4185 Bryan Street, righ next door to the old location. The original supermarket was destroyed in a fire on November 13, 2018 after barely escaping major Hurrican Michael damage.

The new market is expected to have a bigger deli and meat department. Additionally, the sq. ft. has gone up from 5,000 to 7,500. However, the rest of the store’s interior is being kept a secret so that there can be a big reveal at the grand-opening ceremony. Currently, the store reports that they anticipate needing over 20 people on payroll either part-time or full-time to provide a consistent experience to the community eagerly awaiting it’s reopening.

Green Monday

Today is Green Monday, an annual event that was coined by eBay in 2007. Green Monday is one of the biggest online sales days in December due to the upcoming holiday deadlines – it is the last Monday with at least 10 days left before Christmas. Considering standard shipping takes 8-10 business days, this is a crucial date for online shopping. Many big stores such as Walmart and Target utilize this event by offering special deals.

Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is an annual holiday that celebrates small businesses and encourages consumers to shop locally at independently-owned businesses. It was founded in 2010 by American Express, and has grown into an event that rivals Black Friday and Cyber Monday – both annual shopping holidays that put big conglomerates over locally-owned businesses. Small Business Saturday draws attention to the importance of small businesses on local and national economies. This year it is more important than ever to support this annual event; small businesses were hit hard throughout the pandemic and are still closing at an alarming rate! Meanwhile, big-box retailers are seeing record-high sales and have been for well over a year. So visit town today, get started on holiday shopping, and support your community!

Black Friday or Buy Nothing

The widely popular holiday Black Friday is just two days away.

However, Black Friday is not the only event occurring on November 26th – it is also Buy Nothing Day in the United States. Black Friday can be a great opportunity to save money on holiday gifts or expensive investments like new computers but can also encourage needless spending and competitive shopping that can lead to physical harm. Buy Nothing Day is a movement started by artist Ted Dave in 1992, and is an international day of protest against consumerism and the harm it causes to individuals, communities, and the environment.

Great Gulfcoast Art Festival

Today is the last day to score one-of-a-kind holiday gifts at the annual Great Gulfcoast Art Festival. Over 200 artisans will be displaying their creations: pottery, jewelry design, painting, woodworking, glass, sculptures, and more will be available. Other festival highlights include live music, food, performances by local dancers and folk groups, craft demos of traditional trade skills like blacksmithing and spinning in the Heritage Arts Area, and the Student Art Show. Visit Seville Square Park in Pensacola today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to enjoy the last day of this amazing Art Festival.
